You might want to consider prepping for a potential solar storm, thinking about what you might need in the event of one of these.  Without much warning, we could be without cell phones, land lines, computers, and electricity.  This would greatly effect business since all businesses are not computerized.  It would shut down stores and keep you from accessing your bank account.

So how  do you think something like this would effect you and how would you prepare for it?  Like any other disaster?  Or would you do a few things different for this disaster preparedness that you wouldn't do for another.  Keep in mind, this would more than likely effect the entire world.

I don't know much about solar storms, but I'm learning more.  Could a major solar storm send us back to pre-electric times for an extended period of time?  I'm thinking we could be without computers for an extended period of time and cell phones.  Depending on how extensive the solar storm is, it could destroy satellites which supply us with our cell phones, wireless computers and tracking devices, etc.  I could be wrong.  From what little I've read too, I believe that it could also destroy power grids which supply us with electricity.

So what are your thoughts on prepping for something like this?  Any different from any other disaster?

Hi Ms!  Yes, I have thought about a "situation" like this.  I have several ways to cook food, Kelty Kettle (good for home or on the run), propane grill, wood stove insert, propane Coleman stove, a solar oven, and soon to purchase a Volcano stove.

I have water cubes to put water into ASAP because the pumps will go off, I have the hose adapters and potable water hose to fill the cubes for quick fill.  I have 25 gallons of water ready to use at all times.
A wood stove insert for heat and wood for at least 6 months.

Something many do not think of  is sewer back up.  I have purchased plugs for all my sinks, drains, and toilets so if the sewer backs up my outlets all have a plug in them.  I would do that if the disaster lasts more than 3 weeks and there is no electric to pump the sewage.

Now, here is a plan for all disasters.  Have cash in small bills...$10s, $5s, and $1s with quarters, dimes and nickles.  How do people in hard times accumulate cash?  I have had hard times so I know.  When you have a garage sale...stick that money away!  I always buy a nice dinner out after the sale is over but the rest is stashed for my emergency fund.   I have been doing this for 3 years now and am going to have another sale this summer.  I keep getting rid of stuff...stuff just makes life heavy.  I am trying to live light.

This disaster is no different really than any other disaster.  My fear is Nukes.  If Korea or Iran  or anyone hits us with Nukes I guess I am a duck soup.  I am trying to figure a way to take a portion of my basement and make it nuke proof.   Anyone have an idea on that one.  I would love to take my large walk in closet that could hold my food, water and us and have it secured from the nuke and "other people".  Sorry like the Twilight Zone feature my neighbors might hate me but...Oh, Well!

The other bad disaster is a huge meteor.  That could cause a "Winter" that lasts for several years so no food for that length of time and surface water would be toast.  Man that will not be pretty.  I live in the burbs but I would love to drill a well for potable water that I could hand pump from a place in my basement.

I can think of worst case that is for sure!LOL
